📖 Education for all
Education is every child's fundamental right and the most powerful pathway out of poverty, exclusion, and vulnerability. At Ruchika, education is a flagship programme that empowers children from marginalized communities to realize their full potential. By ensuring access to quality education, strengthening foundational learning, supporting school retention, and fostering community ownership, Ruchika helps children successfully integrate into the formal education system and become confident, responsible citizens.
Ruchika directly provided remedial education and learning support to 2,500 children living on the streets, at railway stations, and in urban slums, while indirectly benefiting over 9,000 children in 45 government schools through a range of educational initiatives.
These efforts resulted in over 99% school enrolment, an average academic achievement of 75% in core subjects such as English, Mathematics, and Odia, 77% school attendance, and a dropout rate of just 1%.
Community participation remained central to the programme's success. More than 50% of School Management Committee (SMC) members represented slum communities, while 52 Slum Education Committees actively monitored educational activities, mobilized families, and provided local leadership to ensure that every child remained in school and continued learning.
